Itinerary

Exotic Rwandan experiences begin the moment you arrive at Kigali International Airport. Our Opportune Safaris team shall be ready to welcome you, do the necessary customs clearance formalities, and transfer you for accommodation at the cozy Heaven Boutique Hotel. Check in into the hotel and freshen up; this would also give you time to explore the facility and enjoy a delightful dinner ahead of your exciting days.

You will have a hearty breakfast and afterward set off on a panoramic drive to Akagera National Park in Eastern Province-Rwanda. Driving through rolling hills, appreciate the scenic views for which Rwanda has been given the expression "The Land of a Thousand Hills." Arrive at Akagera Game Lodge in time for lunch and some rest; later, take a boat cruise on Lake Ihema for a thrilling sunset experience.

Watch the sunset over the water, a great backdrop to view hippos, crocodiles, and different bird species. Later, come back to the lodge for dinner and retire.

Akagera National Park is arguably one of the most beautiful savannahs throughout East Africa and boasts the Big Five, lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalo, and leopards-along with a whole host of other wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, and various antelope species. Your expert guide will support you through these diverse habitats, ensuring you have ample opportunities to spot these magnificent creatures. You will have lunch at a picnic in the park, then continue in the afternoon with the game drive. Late afternoon, you will drive to Kigali where you check in for dinner and an overnight stay at Heaven Boutique Hotel.

You will thereafter take an early breakfast and embark on a short city tour of Kigali, which shall include a poignantly moving visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center. This touching moment gives great insight into Rwanda's history and its resilience. Later, you will be transferred to Musanze, the gateway city to Volcanoes National Park. The scenic landscapes and vibrant culture of Rwanda's countryside consume your drive. In Musanze, visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, an eco-friendly campus designed for the conservation of mountain gorillas. In this facility, you will be taken through the ground-breaking study that Dian Fossey pioneered and the continuous conservation efforts concerning these endangered primates. Later check in at Amikus Hotel for dinner and an evening at leisure.

Right after breakfast, you will be taken to a place that was previously known as Iby'Iwacu Cultural Village but is now called Gorilla Guardians Village, where you'll be enwrapped in Rwandan culture, involved in traditional dances, get to know the customs and listen to some interesting stories from Rwanda's past. After such a rich cultural experience, a transfer to the shores of Lake Kivu will be provided.

Check in to Bethany Hotel, have the afternoon at leisure and enjoy the serenity surrounding the lake. Night fishing experience: Join the local fishermen in the evening when they go on the lake singing and casting their nets, hoping to catch sambaza, Lake Kivu's small yet renowned fish.

Start your day in a leisurely way with breakfast by the lake, followed by a morning boat cruise on Lake Kivu. Take a boat drive around the picturesque islands of the lake, look out for several bird species, and enjoy the calm waters. In about two hours, you shall have enough time to enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding this area. Later in the day, drive back to Kigali for some last-minute souvenir shopping in the city's colorful craft markets. You will be transferred to Kigali International Airport, depending on your flight schedule, for your departure to bring to an end an unforgettable Rwandan adventure.
