Swap the rolling hills of Kigali for the sun-drenched plains of Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s magnificent wildlife sanctuary. Join Opportunte Safaris on an action-packed day trip into the wild heart of Rwanda. This isn’t just a drive; it’s a quest into a landscape reborn, a thriving savannah teeming with majestic animals, including Africa’s legendary Big Five.
Trip Itinerary:
- 5:00 AM: Departure from Kigali An early start is key! We will pick you up from our designated meeting point in Kigali. As we drive east, watch the sunrise cast a golden glow over Rwanda’s beautiful countryside.
- 7:30 AM: Arrival at Akagera National Park We arrive at the park entrance, where you can feel the untamed energy of the bush. While your guide handles the park formalities, you can enjoy a quick coffee and prepare for the adventure ahead.
- 8:00 AM: The Game Drive Begins! Southern Circuit We enter the park and immediately begin our search for wildlife. The southern region is known for its rolling hills and abundance of animals. Keep your eyes peeled for giraffes, herds of impala, stately waterbuck, zebra, and families of warthogs. We’ll drive along the picturesque lake shores, home to enormous pods of hippos and countless water birds.
- 12:30 PM: Picnic in the Wild We will find a safe and scenic designated picnic spot to stop for lunch. Enjoy a delicious packed meal surrounded by the sights and sounds of the African savannah – an experience in itself!
- 1:30 PM: Afternoon Game Drive – The Northern Plains After lunch, we drive north to the Kilala Plains. This classic savannah landscape offers breathtaking panoramic views and is a prime location for spotting predators. This is our best chance to find the park’s majestic lions and, with exceptional luck, the elusive black rhino. The sheer concentration of animals in this area is a spectacle to behold.
- 4:00 PM: Exit the Park As the afternoon light softens, we will begin our drive towards the northern exit gate, enjoying one last scan of the plains for wildlife.
- 7:00 PM (approx.): Arrival in Kigali We will arrive back at the original meeting point in Kigali, filled with incredible photos and memories of your wild day out, concluding a truly unforgettable encounter with Rwanda’s savannah kingdom.
